An interesting discussion came up around the dinner table the other evening – are our children becoming soft and have they actually forgotten how to play?

Television, Playstations, Mxit, cellphone games and broadband connections at home have meant that kids are now constantly connected to electronic stimulus and these kids simply don’t have the same desire to go out and do activities that require them to run around, play, fall over and most importantly – socialise!

Parents must also take some responsibility here – how often have you brought home work and worked through dinner, your child’s homework time or weekends. You as the parent are often too tired or too busy to throw a cricket ball, take them to a hockey match or find a way to stimulate your child. The simple solution is to say “go and watch TV”.

The reality is that people are busier and they are faced with time constraints. But lets be honest – no parent wants to wake up when their child turns 18 or 21 and realise they have no idea who their child is or what they enjoy.

Children need to play. They need to be able to experience the rough and tumble of playing sports with other kids. They need to learn to be able sportsmanship and teamwork by doing group sports. They need the fresh air of walking the dogs, riding their bikes, swimming in the pool.

This is a continuation of an article about the iPhone, and why it is my gaming console preference nowadays. Before it was between the ps3 or pc, based on the history of consoles. But now, practicality and "coolness" says to me that iPhone is the gaming console that can be more practical without sacrificing gaming fun.

Great graphics, cool company, although I am not an affiliate or an advertiser for Apple, I think it is the coolest handheld gaming console I possess so far. From the previous article, I have discussed that there are Sony and Nintendo consoles, which are all great no questions about it, but the iPhone caught my attention a few days after I met it and didn't let go.

There are many apps out there for our own mobile phones, and we enjoy games while on the road or bored. As for me, there were times that games in phones were a burden because first of all, my mobile phone ( I don't want to name names ) didn't have great graphics and a large memory to keep up with the gaming needs. And it made the phone slow and could not function properly anymore.

iPhone apps are great, not only can the hardware back up the great graphics and gameplay of every game, but the apps are cheap! $9.95 or less, I wouldn't have to worry about my conscience having to pirate games ( which is bad by the way) just to enjoy the full versions of the games available.

But I think one of the greatest thing about this is that there are literally a flood of apps out there, and there are many more independent and non-independent developers who make games out of innovation and response to every taste available. All genres that you want to enjoy, from RPG to casual games, apps growing by the minute can be a real delight of choices for every iPhone Gaming aficionado.

All of that changed once I discovered abbreviations. When text messaging, most “pros” use abbreviations for popular phrases or sayings. For example:

This was like a serious breath of fresh air for me. I started churning out text messages in seconds, instead of several minutes, it was like a giant light bulb instantly went off.

The second thing that I really learned to love about texting my friends and family was the fact that I could respond to them whenever it was convenient for me. I didn’t feel as compelled to interrupt my activities to reply as I normally did with a ringing phone. My productivity definitely increased as a result.
